Nursing at UPEI in Charlottetown: BScN, Accelerated BScN and PEI registration
The University of Prince Edward Island’s Faculty of Nursing, established in 1992, is based on the Charlottetown campus. It is the university route into nursing on the Island.
What the school offers (nursing)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN): a four-year program for high-school graduates and equivalent applicants.
- Accelerated BScN: a two-year program for students who already hold a previous degree.
- Master of Nursing and a Critical Care and Emergency Nursing program, listed on the Faculty’s page.
- NCLEX-RN preparation: UPEI’s Faculty has a dedicated NCLEX-RN preparation page, and says graduates become eligible for licensure examinations and membership in the provincial nursing regulator.
Becoming licensed after graduating
In Prince Edward Island, nurses are regulated by the Prince Edward Island College of Nursing & Midwifery (PEICNM). Its examinations page says registered nurse applicants must complete the computer-adaptive NCLEX-RN, and that the CPNRE is the entry-to-practice exam for practical nurses. Regulator names and processes have changed on the Island in recent years, so confirm current steps on the PEICNM site.
How to apply
UPEI describes three steps: create a UPEI account, complete the UPEI application form, then submit the application and fee, through its online application form. Program-specific requirements are on the Faculty of Nursing pages.
