Collège de Maisonneuve nursing: the DEC, continuing education and the OIIQ
Collège de Maisonneuve (Cégep de Maisonneuve) is a French-language public college in Montréal. It lists Soins infirmiers as a technical DEC and, separately, as a continuing-education offering for people who already have prior college or university studies. The program pages are in French.
What the school offers (nursing)
- Soins infirmiers (regular DEC): a Diploma of College Studies, listed as six sessions (three years). The college says 67% of the specific training takes place in labs and clinical placements, with high-fidelity clinical simulation using programmable mannequins. Prerequisites include Secondary 4 science and technology, with Secondary 5 chemistry recommended before the third session. ↗
- Soins infirmiers (continuing education): a DEC aimed at applicants who already hold a DEC, completed DEC general-education courses or 30 university credits, with Secondary 4 physics, Secondary 5 chemistry and French and math placement tests. Intake dates are set per cohort on the page. ↗
The continuing-education page also says graduates are prepared for the OIIQ professional exam, and describes clinical placements in Montréal-area health facilities across medical-surgical, psychiatric, pediatric and perinatal care.
Becoming licensed after graduating
In Québec, the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ) issues the practice permit. The Québec program sheet for the nursing DEC says graduates must pass the exam required to obtain the OIIQ permit. The NCLEX-RN route used in other provinces does not apply to Québec registration. Check the OIIQ for the current exam sessions and conditions.
How to apply
For the regular DEC, Montréal-area colleges generally use SRAM (Service régional d’admission du Montréal métropolitain). The college’s program page mentions fall and winter admission with deadlines; the continuing-education program has its own application path on its page. Always confirm the current deadline on the college’s site.
How Fiabita’s Study Lab can help students here
With so much of the program in labs and placements, the gap is often review time. Study Lab can turn your own notes into quiz questions and flashcards, and its rationale feature is meant for working out why an answer is right, not only what it is.
