Yukon University nursing student guide: the Practical Nurse program in Whitehorse
What the school offers (nursing)
- Yukon University’s School of Health, Education and Human Services page lists one nursing-related program, the Practical Nurse diploma. We did not find a registered nurse degree on that page.
- The program page describes a two-year program of five terms plus one preceptorship, delivered in Whitehorse at the Ayamdigut campus, with clinical components off campus. Graduates receive a Bow Valley College diploma. A late-August start is listed.
- Admission requirements on the page include a minimum of 60% in English 12 and Biology 12 (or equivalents) and a pass in Math 11, with competitive ranking based on English and Biology grades. Requirements can change, so read the current page.
Becoming licensed after graduating
The program page says graduates will be prepared to write the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination (CPNRE) and to apply for licensure. It does not name the licensing body for practical nurses, so confirm the registration steps with the university and the Government of Yukon. For reference, the Government of Yukon says the Yukon Registered Nurses Association (YRNA) regulates registered nurses and nurse practitioners.
How to apply
The program page links to the university’s online application page and lists a program advisor contact (pn@yukonu.ca). The deadline shown on the page we checked was for the 2026 intake, so look for the current intake dates.
How Fiabita’s Study Lab can help students here
Study Lab is independent and not affiliated with Yukon University. If you are in the Practical Nurse program, you can upload your own notes and slides to build quizzes and flashcards for the CPNRE-style content you are studying, and practise documentation. AI-generated content can contain errors, so check it against your course material.
