Nursing at Western University in London, Ontario: Direct Entry, Compressed Time Frame and CNO registration
Western University's Arthur Labatt Family School of Nursing in London, Ontario, offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN). One change to know about: the Western-Fanshawe Collaborative BScN is no longer taking new students.
What the school offers (nursing)
- Direct Entry 3.5-year BScN. The standard route, open to students entering from secondary school, mature applicants and those moving from other post-secondary programs.
- Compressed Time Frame (CTF) BScN. An accelerated option of 19 months for students with prior university credits and completed prerequisite courses. Western also lists a 19-month RPN stream (Stream A) and a 22-month RPN/LPN stream (Stream B) for people with nursing backgrounds.
- Western-Fanshawe Collaborative BScN. The collaborative page says its final intake took place in 2025, and points prospective students to Direct Entry and CTF instead.
- Where. The school operates from the FIMS and Nursing Building, with simulation labs and clinical skills spaces.
Becoming licensed after graduating
Ontario nurses are registered by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). Western's page says graduates must pass a licensing exam, and that qualifying to write it requires proof of Canadian citizenship, permanent resident status or authorization under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. The CNO states that Ontario RN graduates take the NCLEX-RN. International applicants should read the CNO residency requirements.
How to apply
Applications to the Direct Entry 3.5-year BScN go through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) with program code ENW. Western says first-year enrolment is limited and that admission is competitive, so meeting the minimums does not guarantee an offer. Applicants whose first language is not English may need an accepted proficiency test; the school lists the options on its admission page.
How Fiabita's Study Lab can help students here
The Compressed Time Frame streams cover a lot in 19 to 22 months, and Study Lab can help you turn your own notes into quizzes and flashcards quickly and rehearse SBAR handoffs for placements. Fiabita is independent of Western University and holds none of its course content. AI output can contain errors, so confirm it with your instructors' material.
