University of Saskatchewan Bachelor of Science in Nursing: guide for students
The University of Saskatchewan (USask) College of Nursing offers the BSN at several sites across the province, not only in Saskatoon. This page summarizes what the College publishes and what the regulator expects.
What the school offers (nursing)
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is a four-year program: one pre-professional year followed by three years of nursing education. The pre-professional year can be completed at USask or at other approved institutions.
- Years two to four are delivered in Saskatoon and Prince Albert, and at distributed learning sites in Île-à-la-Crosse, La Ronge, Lloydminster, Muenster, North Battleford, Swift Current, Weyburn and Yorkton.
- The College says the curriculum integrates wahkohtowin, a Cree worldview of interconnectedness, along with the Seven Sacred Teachings.
- It describes a mix of theory, simulation and clinical practice, with interprofessional learning alongside medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and other health programs.
- The College states that the program is accredited by the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing and has approval from the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS) (seven years, as of September 2023). Part-time study is possible, with all courses completed within six years.
Becoming licensed after graduating
The College states that to practise as a registered nurse, graduates must pass the NCLEX-RN administered by Pearson VUE and register with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS). Check the CRNS for the current process.
How to apply
USask says applications are submitted through its online portal (apply.usask.ca). Its nursing admission page describes an early admission and a regular admission application deadline, transcripts, English-language proficiency proof if applicable, a competitive academic average for years two to four, and optional Indigenous equity seat verification. Deadlines change each year, so confirm them on the admissions page.
How Fiabita's Study Lab can help students here
The pre-professional year and nursing years may happen at different sites, so students often study without a classmate beside them. Study Lab can turn your own notes into quizzes and flashcards for anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and nursing courses, and help you practise NCLEX-style thinking from your own material. Study Lab is independent from USask, and AI-generated content can contain errors, so validate it against your course material.
