UNB Bachelor of Nursing: 4-year, accelerated and LPN-to-BN routes, and NCLEX-RN
The University of New Brunswick (UNB) is an English-language university, and its Faculty of Nursing offers the Bachelor of Nursing (BN) through several routes. This page lays them out and explains how graduates register as RNs in New Brunswick.
What the school offers (nursing)
UNB lists a four-year Bachelor of Nursing, with nursing courses alongside courses from other disciplines and clinical experience from the first year. UNB's calendar describes it at its Fredericton and Saint John campuses, while the nursing faculty's undergraduate page lists it in Fredericton; check the current campus before applying.
The Accelerated Program is a two-year (six-term) route offered in Moncton, designed for students with at least 46 credit hours of university study. A High School to Accelerated BN Pathway lets school leavers complete university credits first and then enter the accelerated program, and an LPN to BN bridge lets licensed practical nurses enter after six transition courses. UNB's nursing site cites an 8:1 student-to-faculty ratio in most clinical courses; students must also provide immunization proof, a current first aid/CPR certification and criminal record checks.
Becoming licensed after graduating
UNB states that a Bachelor of Nursing from UNB qualifies graduates to write the NCLEX-RN. The College of Nursing of New Brunswick (CNNB) lists the NCLEX-RN (or the OIIQ exam) as the registration exam, to be passed within three years of completing the program, and lists steps for new NB graduates such as a criminal record check and a jurisprudence module. The CNNB also lists UNB's regular, advanced standing and LPN-to-RN bridging BN options, and its NP program, as approved. Confirm current requirements with the CNNB.
How to apply
UNB applications go through its online application system. UNB's admission requirements tool lets you select Nursing to see the specific prerequisites, and its calendar describes transfer and mature-student routes. Applicants whose first language is not English must show English proficiency through accepted tests. Check the important dates page for nursing deadlines.
How Fiabita's Study Lab can help students here
Fiabita is an independent study tool and is not affiliated with UNB. Since the NCLEX-RN is the registration exam here, Study Lab can generate NCLEX-style practice questions and flashcards from your own course notes, with rationales; it is practice support, not a prediction of results. AI-generated content can contain errors, so check it against your course material.
