University of Calgary nursing: BScN routes, Indigenous pathway and licensing
The University of Calgary Faculty of Nursing offers the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) through several routes, including community-based ones. Instruction is in English. Here is what the faculty’s own pages say.
What the school offers (nursing)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN): the faculty says it replaces the former Bachelor of Nursing (BN). Routes listed are direct entry from high school (Year One), advanced standing or transfer (Year One or Two), a Medicine Hat College collaborative program, a Rural Community Route and an Indigenous Community Route. ↗
- Indigenous Community Route: described as a blended delivery model with clinical placements in your area, so Indigenous students can earn the BScN without leaving their home community. The page notes specific citizenship and residency requirements for applicants. ↗
- Lottery admission: the faculty states that, effective Fall 2026, it uses a lottery admission process for the BScN program. Read the admission page for how it applies to your route. ↗
Becoming licensed after graduating
In Alberta, registered nurses are registered by the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA), which says the registration exam for RNs is the NCLEX-RN. The faculty’s BScN page shows its CASN accreditation badge but does not itself spell out the licensing steps, so rely on the CRNA for the current registration requirements and timelines.
How to apply
The faculty’s BScN page directs applicants to apply online through the university’s future-students site, and the University of Calgary is listed among the institutions on ApplyAlberta. Pre-requisite coursework and deadlines vary by route, so confirm them on the page for your route.
How Fiabita’s Study Lab can help students here
Students in community-based routes often study away from campus. Study Lab can turn notes you paste in into practice questions and flashcards you can use on your own schedule. It is an independent study tool, not part of the program.
