Saskatchewan Polytechnic nursing student guide: Practical Nursing and the collaborative BScN
What the school offers (nursing)
- Practical Nursing diploma, a two-year program at the Prince Albert, Regina and Saskatoon campuses, with online and distance options that still require in-person labs, clinicals and seminars. The program page says it is approved by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Saskatchewan (CLPNS).
- Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing (SCBScN), offered jointly with the University of Regina in Regina and Saskatoon. The SCBScN site describes a four-year degree, a two-year After Degree Nursing Program, accelerated LPN-to-BScN and RPN-to-BScN pathways, and a Bilingual Option where part of the degree is completed in French.
- The school of nursing page also lists a Collaborative Nurse Practitioner Program with the University of Regina leading to a Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner), and says learning takes place at campuses in Moose Jaw, Prince Albert, Regina and Saskatoon.
Becoming licensed after graduating
For practical nurses, the program page says graduates are eligible to write the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam, required to be licensed as a practical nurse in Saskatchewan. Registered nurses register with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS), whose site refers to the NCLEX-RN for Saskatchewan and Canadian graduates. Confirm the current steps with CLPNS and CRNS.
How to apply
For Practical Nursing, use the “Apply Now” route on the program page; admission is described as competitive, and deadlines are listed there. For the SCBScN, the program site lists different admission pathways depending on your background (high school, post-secondary, bilingual applicants, LPN or RPN, or an existing bachelor’s degree), so start from the pathway that matches you.
How Fiabita’s Study Lab can help students here
Study Lab is independent and not affiliated with Saskatchewan Polytechnic or the University of Regina. In either program you can upload your own notes to create quizzes and flashcards, and practise medication math and documentation. AI-generated content can contain errors, so check it against your course material.
