Collège La Cité nursing (practical nursing diploma and BScN): Ottawa guide
Collège La Cité is a French-language college in Ottawa. It has two nursing entries that Fiabita can point to from its own published pages: the auxiliary nursing diploma and a French-language bachelor's degree.
What the school offers (nursing)
La Cité lists the following nursing-related programs:
- Soins infirmiers auxiliaires (auxiliary nursing, the Ontario Registered Practical Nurse role): a two-year diploma. The program page says instruction is in French and English and that a strong command of English is essential.
- Baccalauréat en sciences infirmières: a four-year specialized French-language bachelor's degree in nursing, which La Cité launched for autumn 2023 with provincial funding, according to Ontario's Avantage Ontario site. The college's catalogue also lists an accelerated-mode version.
Becoming licensed after graduating
For the auxiliary nursing diploma, La Cité states that the program is approved by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and that graduates may request registration as authorized auxiliary nurses (Registered Practical Nurses) in Ontario. The CNO's general requirements also include a registration exam, a jurisprudence exam and language proficiency in English or French. For the BScN, confirm the program's approval status and the registration steps on the college's page and with the CNO; we did not verify them.
How to apply
La Cité publishes its own application page (“Faire une demande d'admission”) and an admission dates page. For the auxiliary nursing program, the college says applicants from Ontario receive priority when places are limited. Confirm the current route, intake dates and prerequisites on the program page.
How Fiabita's Study Lab can help students here
If you study in French but may work in English-language workplaces, bilingual practice is useful. Study Lab can help you review medication safety, assessment and documentation from your own notes in either language. For the auxiliary nursing diploma, short, regular quizzes fit a two-year timeline. Study Lab is independent from Collège La Cité, and AI-generated content can contain errors, so validate it against your course material.
