Nursing at Dalhousie University: the BScN in Halifax and Yarmouth
Dalhousie University's School of Nursing offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN), a professional program that prepares students to become registered nurses. It is taught on two Nova Scotia campuses, Halifax and Yarmouth.
What the school offers (nursing)
- Two ways in. Dalhousie describes a three-year program (eight semesters over three years) for entry at Semester 1, and a two-year route for entry at Semester 3 for students who already have at least 30 credit hours of university prerequisites.
- Yarmouth campus. The Yarmouth page says foundational coursework there is delivered through a partnership with Université Sainte-Anne, and that transfers between the Halifax and Yarmouth campuses are not permitted. Choose your campus deliberately.
- Arctic nursing option. Dalhousie says an Arctic Nursing option is offered collaboratively for students in Nunavut.
- After Semester 5. Students may pursue nursing certificates in oncology, public health, mental health and addictions nursing, perinatal and paediatric nursing, or acute/critical care nursing. Clinical courses with placements in a variety of settings take place each year.
Becoming licensed after graduating
Nova Scotia's regulator is the Nova Scotia Nursing and Midwifery Regulator (NSNMR). Its site lists the NCLEX-RN among the required licensing exams and has a New Graduates section with separate pathways for people educated in Nova Scotia and elsewhere. Licensure decisions are the regulator's, so use the NSNMR pages for current steps and timing.
How to apply
Dalhousie's program page points applicants to its online application portal ("Start my application") and to the university's application-process pages. The program page does not state a deadline, so check the admissions pages for the intake you want.
How Fiabita's Study Lab can help students here
Dalhousie's program moves through a lot of content in three years, and Study Lab works best as a revision companion: build quizzes and flashcards from your own notes on pharmacology and assessment, and practise concise handoffs before clinical courses. Fiabita is independent of Dalhousie and has none of its materials; AI output can contain errors, so verify it against your course content.
