Nursing at Cégep du Vieux Montréal: the 180.A0 DEC, placements and OIIQ exam

Canada · Montréal, Québec · Last checked October 2026

Cégep du Vieux Montréal (CVM) is a French-language public college at 255 rue Ontario Est in downtown Montréal. This page collects what CVM and the Québec college system say about its nursing program and the route to licensure.

Fiabita is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by this institution. Current admissions, courses, placements and professional requirements must be verified with the official institution and applicable regulator.

What the school offers (nursing)

CVM offers the Soins infirmiers (180.A0) college diploma (DEC). The provincial college directory describes it as a three-year program, with Secondary 4 science courses as a prerequisite.

According to CVM, the program includes six credited placements totalling 1,035 hours in settings such as the CHUM, CHU Sainte-Justine, Hôpital Santa Cabrini and the Institut universitaire en santé mentale de Montréal, moving from medicine-surgery to areas such as paediatrics, perinatal care, psychiatry and geriatrics. CVM also lists problem-based learning in small groups, high-fidelity simulation and, in the sixth term, an optional international placement (Senegal is named).

CVM states that a DEC-BAC agreement with Université de Montréal lets graduates complete a nursing bachelor's degree in two years instead of three, subject to admission criteria.

Becoming licensed after graduating

In Québec, nurses are licensed by the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ). CVM says its faculty support students toward the mandatory OIIQ professional exam. The OIIQ explains that your school confirms you have completed the program, and the OIIQ then sends you registration information; the exam is taken at the end of the program. NCLEX-RN is not the route used in Québec.

Details (dates, attempts, immatriculation, language requirements) change, so rely on the OIIQ's current student pages.

How to apply

Colleges in the Montréal area are generally served by the SRAM, the regional admission service, and CVM's program page is the place to confirm how to apply and which prerequisites apply to you. The SRAM states that regular admissions for the winter 2027 session opened on 15 September 2026; confirm CVM's own deadlines before planning.

How Fiabita's Study Lab can help students here
